The woke hypocrisy about "people of colour"

One of the biggest woke distinctions is between white and non-white people. They are constantly invoking this distinction, and grouping people into one of these two categories. There's various different terms that they use for the "non-white" group, including "people of colour", BIPOC, and BAME, though there are divisions within wokedom about which of these are acceptable.

Despite being infatuated with grouping people into "white" and "non-white", and most of them being fine with the term "people of colour", they will scream murder if anyone uses the term "coloured people". There is huge hypocrisy there. If the woke were genuine about avoiding the offensive connotations associated with "coloured people", they would not accept "people of colour" either. And yet they do.

The terms "people of colour" and "coloured people" have literally identical meanings (I'm not talking about connotations here), and only differ in how directly they state the adjective. If the historical connotations associated with "coloured people" trigger offense and hurt whenever they're heard, then given how similar "people of colour" is, there is no way people could avoid having those same connotations triggered whenever they heard "people of colour".

Yet while one term generates outrage and people are fired for using it, the other (with identical meaning, and just as much ability to trigger harmful connotations) is considered (by most) acceptable, and its use is encouraged.

This is not an argument that "coloured people" should be used, it is an argument about the hypocrisy of the woke.

Like so many of the woke dictates about language, the level of outrage about using the "wrong" term is not really sincere. There may be hurtful connotations, but their supposed psychological impact are exaggerated in order to gain power over others. They seek opportunities to cry offense, to be able to point and say "Look! The evil we're fighting against is everywhere!", and to be able to bully people.
