Steve Grand: Moving AI out of its infancy: Changing our Preconceptions
[Update: the article can now be found here]
An excellent article by Steve Grand, on where he thinks AI needs to go. It's like a summary of the main points in his book "Growing Up With Lucy".
The main points he makes are:
- The purpose of the brain is to compensate for all the time it takes for the nerve signals to travel to it and back again.
- Brains don’t make decisions
- Brains perform coordinate transforms
- Nervous tissue is a new state of matter
- The more complex a robot is, the easier it is to make progress
